I chanced to see this interview last night on CNN by Glen Beck with author Brad Thor (interesting nom de guerre) about his new book “The Last Patriot”-the theme of which is an Islamic ‘Da Vinci’ code. The locus of the story is northern Virginia and is a send up on what we have been fighting. They spent a great deal of time focusing on the threat posed by Saudi Wahhabi institutions like Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) and the Muslim Brotherhood front here in America about to be impleaded we hope in the re-trial of the Holy Land foundation matter in the Dallas Federal District Court this September.

Thor draws attention in this interview to the comments on Islam and actions of our founding fathers, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the latter who undertook a covert operation with the aid of a few Marines to free enslaved American sailors from the beached frigate USS Philadelphia in Tripoli harbor during the Jihad of the Barbary Wars at the start of the 19th Century.

The plot deals with the ‘discovery’ of a missing chapter in the Qu’ran and the fictional assassination of Mohammed. Thor is a brave guy. We’re sure that fatwas are spewing out of his publisher’s faxes on this first day of publication. Go find the book either on-line or in a local bookseller. This is one smart piece of fiction that all ACT members and Americans should read over this long Fourth of July holiday.

The Last Patriot: A Thriller

GLENN: Thrilled to have Brad Thor on with me. He is the author of The Last Patriot. This is a book that I read how long ago, Mr. Thor, best selling New York Times author?

THOR: I think it was back in March, Glenn.

GLENN: Okay. You sent it to me and I said to you, in all seriousness, I had you on the air and I said, you’re a dead man.

THOR: Yeah, you told me don’t publish it.

GLENN: Yeah. Now, I told you — I wrote to you and I didn’t mean to be presumptuous at all but I wrote to you and I said, A, are you going to back off of any of this; B, are you going to tell me what’s real and what’s not real in the final version of the book. Did you do either of those?

THOR: I didn’t back off on any of it. The book is exactly what you saw. There’s a — and again this is a thriller. The Last Patriot is a thriller, but there’s a lot of little secrets that Islam doesn’t want out there that I’ve incorporated into this book, but I did do what you said and at the end I have an author’s note and I do say, hey, these are the true things that the book is based upon and this is where I took artistic license.

GLENN: Okay. This is — I tell you, Brad, and I don’t mean to fall all over you here on this but this is — I read your book and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with the Internet, with the laptop by my side because — I mean, I do that a lot with some books because so riddled with ADD. But your book — for instance, the memorial that you talk about, the thing that used to be sitting in Washington D.C., the capital.

THOR: Correct.

GLENN: And now has been moved to Annapolis, I had to look that up and see if that was real. I couldn’t believe it.

THOR: It’s true. And I guarantee you, Glenn, it’s only a matter — and that was a tribute to our brave men who died in defending this country when we first went to war with radical Islam during the time of Thomas Jefferson and I guarantee you one day we’ll have some Muslim benevolence organization that wants it taken down because it’s offensive to Muslims. I guarantee it will happen.

GLENN: I looked it up. What is the name of this thing? If you are listening and you happen to be by a computer, you’ve got to Google this. What’s the name of this thing?

THOR: It’s called the Tripoli Monument and it’s at the naval academy in Annapolis.

GLENN: What is the line from the Marines?

THOR: From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli.

GLENN: And I had no idea. It didn’t even occur to me. I know the story of the pirates that were, you know, marauding and taking control of the seas and Thomas Jefferson had to go after the pirates. And I know the story about Tripoli kind of. I didn’t realize, it didn’t click to me that it was Islamic extremists that Thomas Jefferson was going after.

THOR: And that’s exactly it. What’s interesting is that our Navy, when we went to war with Great Britain in the Revolutionary War, we were protected by the Brits in the war. We were protected by the French in the war was over. And then once the war was over, the French said, okay, America, glad we could help out, good luck, you need to pay us back for everything we did for you. And we were alone on the high seas. And the Muslims of North Africa were the most horrific Barbarist pirates out there and Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with the Muslim ambassador to Tripoli in London to say — they wanted to know, hey, we’re not making war on you; why are you just killing our ships and taking our goods and everything? And the Muslim ambassador — now, this is back in, like, 1784 — said, well, it’s written in our Qur’an that all nations which don’t acknowledge the prophet Mohammed are sinners and we’ve got the right and it’s our duty to plunder and enslave you and that any of our guys who die doing it go to paradise. It’s exactly — and congress said we need to smack these guys down, we cannot show weakness. And congress said, you know what, maybe we just pay them off, let’s not go — let’s not cause any trouble, let’s just pay them off the way the French and everybody else are doing right now.

GLENN: Just, it’s amazing that the 1700s were dealing with the same thing and you saw the way Thomas Jefferson dealt with it.

Now, listen, I don’t want to get off on the standard because this is not what the book is about.

THOR: No, that’s the historical back drop for the book.

GLENN: This is going to sound like a boring history book and it’s not a boring history book. This is one of the best action thrillers and I’m telling you I think this is the Da Vinci Code. Did you use any quotes from me?

THOR: Yes, he with did. I believe there are some quotes that they used in there. There’s also — of course, I put a — you’ve been very helpful. I did put in a special acknowledgment to you. But I haven’t seen the final stuff that the publisher’s got going out.

GLENN: Yeah, I just wanted to know if they used, because I think this is a — the way I felt about this book, this is the Da Vinci Code for Islam. As much as the Catholic church didn’t want the Da Vinci Code to come out, this is the Da Vinci Code for Islam, except the Da Vinci Code was so much more fiction than this is. This is based on real historical fact, a lot of it, and it is absolutely — I’m telling you, you’re going to have a fatwa on you.

THOR: Well, you know, I’ve already had multiple death threats come in and that’s something that we’re taking very seriously with the tour coming up and everything, but I think it’s important for me to tell your listeners, Glenn, what the story is based on is that the Prophet Muhammad had one final revelation, shared it with his disciples and was assassinated to keep it quiet and keep it off the core and if that revelation can be found today, it will completely reshape Islam and that’s what the book I is based on. So you are right, it is not a historical book. This is a contemporary thriller and that’s what the basis of the book is.
