With all the news about a possible coup in Beirut by Hezbollah, in comes some ‘news’ that several Hizbollah websites are being hosted in….the US and Canada.

This Jawa Report listed several ones. Here’s the list as of today. Note how many that the Jawa cyber troopers have smacked down and how many have popped back up and skedaddled elsewhere. Clever those Hizb cyber terrorists.

But it is not really funny. Not one bit. Just the other day we posted a story entitled: “A Digital Haven for Terrorists on Our Own Shores?” about a Tel Aviv university study by a Professor Ahituv that resonated with a mantra from our colleague Joe Shahda: shut these terrorist sites, down. As these Hizb websites are being hosted in the US, the ISPs should be contacted and informed that they are in violation of Federal law and advised to shut down the hosting of these terrorist websites. It’s is the least that we can do in furtherance of US foreign policy.

Dr. Walid Phares of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy in Washington, DC in an email comment on this revelation believes this initiative is important. Tom Harb secretary-general of the International Lebanese Committee for U.N. Security Council Resolution 1559 is coordinating a program against Hizb propaganda in the West. Shutting down these Hizb websites in the US could be a significant element in that effort. Responsible media ought to pick up on this story and ask our State and Justice Departments why they aren’t requesting US ISP hosts for Hizb websites to cease and desist or face the consequences. Clearly the story has created a buzz on the blogosphere. A tip of the hat to our good buddy “Beowulf” for this story.

Hosting Hezbollah violates the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Each IEEPA violation of carries a fine of up to $250,000.

Hezbollah has a couple more sites hosted in various places overseas, Namely Syria, Iran and Lebanon. We may look at these later as I’m sure they will be difficult to remove to say the least.
